Disaster Response Training
Details
All volunteers who need to be prepared to respond to future disaster events to help survivors must undergo training. This Basic Disaster Response Team (DRT) training covers essential skills that a volunteer must have to effectively respond to a disaster. This training includes basic roof tarping, cleaning out flooded homes, assessment techniques, spiritual and emotional care, DRT protocols, and more.
The purpose of this training is to equip our volunteers to provide aid without causing further harm to disaster survivors. Upon completing the training, individuals will receive credentials that may be required for post-disaster response. Those who successfully complete the training will receive a DRT ID badge and a volunteer T-shirt.
The training sessions are open to all individuals aged 18 and older. Participants must complete a background check through Sterling Volunteers ($47.00), (link provided below) and have completed Sexual Abuse Awareness Training offered by Ministry Safe and approved by the Global Methodist Church. Please check with your local church for information on this training, and bring your completion certificate to class.
Please bring a valid state ID (such as a driver’s license) to class for verification that each participant has completed the background check.
